Built circa 1880, the Manor Room as Upottery’s Village Hall is known, was given to the village by Lord Sidmouth and is in the centre of Upottery’s community. With the valued support of the village, some grant money and through tireless fund-raising, the hall was extended to provide a good sized entrance lobby with disabled access and WC, and some storage in 2008, and now comprises entrance lobby, main hall, committee room, a good-sized kitchen, lavatories and disabled lavatory with baby changing, changing and shower rooms and storage room.
The hall has the capacity and amenities to cater for in excess of a hundred people and with its classic truss ceiling has something of the feel of a medieval hall. It is a hall that lends itself, therefore, to use for receptions and banquets in particular. There are ample tables in various shapes and sizes for all types of functions, and the small, permanent stage can be extended on request to provide the setting for entertainments. Parking is on three sides of the hall and together with limited on-street parking is usually sufficient for all hall functions.
The well equipped kitchen (with new double oven, fridge, microwave oven, catering-size hostess trolley etc) is sufficient for catering functions up to around one-hundred and twenty guests. Crockery to facilitate this size of function is available on request and is included in the booking fee, otherwise there is ample provision for smaller functions always available in the kitchen. There are serving hatches into both the main hall and the committee room.
The hall is used on a weekly/regular basis by many village organizations including art groups, Short Mat Bowls Club, Women’s Institute, Young Farmers’ Club, Youth Club, various sports groups and many more. Many of these organizations would welcome new members, so if you would like a contact number please get in touch with a member of the Manor Room Committee listed later on.
Please do not assume that the hall or parts of the hall cannot be booked by other users that day, always check with the bookings secretary for availability.
See Hiring Charges for full details
Please Note:Users of the hall are expected to leave it clean, tidy and, unless pre-arranged with the caretaker, as they found it.
Failure to do so may incur a cleaning charge.
